Coyote Parents,
As first semester comes to a close I would like to draw attention to three main areas: Class placement, remediation and free and reduced lunch. During the first week in January we met with our Student Intervention Team (SIT) which includes our counselor, specialists and teachers. The goal of this meeting was to discuss every student including their achievement data, class placement, holes in their learning, activities involved in, outside concerns and strengths/talents of our students. Class placements are critical for student achievement, normative growth and academic challenge. I recently sat down with our counselor, Mrs. Hasbrouck, we hand enrolled every student using the data from our SIT team work and MAP testing data.
A focus at SSMS is our work with Essential Skills software and addressing holes in student learning. Our MAP testing gives us critical achievement data that we rely on to make decisions in the best interest of our students. We will be providing remediation to students on an every other day basis in a pull out setting from PE. We will also offer this class during sixth period opposite a second shot class, band or AR.
Also, with the economy the way it is and with many unforeseen hardships placed on our Coyote Families I would like to encourage everyone that might be eligible for free or reduced lunch to please fill out the confidential paperwork. Our wonderful lunch staff will process the paperwork and make sure all of our incredible students get breakfast and lunch.
SSMS thanks our SIP team, SIT team, and all of our wonderful teachers and students for a great first semester and look forward to CRT testing, writing proficiencies and our Spring MAP testing as we charge forward and make AYP! I would also like to wish our Academic team, Future Cities Program, Volleyball and wrestling squads well on their forth coming seasons.
Finally, if any of you have questions or concerns regarding Essential Skills, class placement or our lunch program don’t hesitate to call. Thanks parents for a wonderful first semester.
